Winter 2015 Classes

WINTER CLASSES: Study solvent-free oil painting for all levels.  You may purchase single sessions for $90 each, or all five for $400, (a $50 savings).   Classes meet in my Ruston, Washington Studio (near Tacoma) every other Saturday over a period of ten weeks.  Sessions run from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. with short breaks.  Bring your lunch.  Beverages and snacks provided. Space is limited to 8 participants.  I reserve the right to cancel classes with fewer than 4 participants. Read the class descriptions below. January 24, 2015: Interaction of Light and Local Color ($90)
In this six-hour session (11 a.m.-5 p.m.) we will explore how local colors shift by painting the still life under colored light.

February 7, 2015: Mutual Intensification of Neutralized Complementary Colors ($90)
In this six-hour session (11 a.m.-5 p.m.) we will learn how to make a neutral palette vibrant while painting a still life.  This skill is a must for figure and landscape painters.

February 21, 2015: Monochrome Wipe-Out Self Portrait ($90)
In this six-hour session (11 a.m.-5 p.m.) we will paint the self-portrait from life and/or photograph using the additive and subtractive "wipe-out" method with one color in order to achieve mastery with brushwork.

March 7: Self-Portrait ($90)
In this six-hour session (11 a.m.-5 p.m.) we will paint a full-color self-portrait from life and/or photographs in order to give definition to our personal journey as artists. Taking the Monochrome Wipe-Out and Mutual Intensification of Neutralized Complementary Colors classes beforehand is highly recommended.

March 21, 2015: Master Studies ($90)
In this six-hour session (11 a.m.-5 p.m.) we will paint a copy of a painting you love in order to decode its formal properties.  Finish a study you have already begun or start something new!
