Fall 2018 Classes: Studying the Masters

Picture
Do you want to create a masterpiece?  Do you want to learn the strategies and techniques of the Masters?

If so, this course is for you.  Join me for eight weeks of intensive study of the Masters.   We will paint with a solvent-free oil painting techinique that utilizes walnut oil--the medium of Leonardo da Vinci and Albrect Dürer.  You will not  be exposed to toxic solvents in my studio and will learn to paint at home without noxious odors.

You may purchase single sessions for $90 each.   Tuition for all four class sessions is $360.  Classes meet in my Ruston, studio (Tacoma) every other
Saturday over a period of 8 weeks.  Classes are on September 29, October 13 & 27, November 10.  Sessions run from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. with short breaks.  Bring your lunch.  Beverages and snacks provided.  I will conduct a short demo and discussion at the beginning of each session.  Space is limited to 10 participants.   To register complete the registration form and submit payment, by September15, 2018.  Use the CONTACT link above to email me questions.  Refer to the Supply List page for a list of suggested supplies to bring with you.

CLASS DESCRIPTION
This fall I will teach you how to decode a masterful painting so that you can learn the strategies and techniques used by the masters.  You will replicate the painting to the best of your ability with me coaching you every step of the way.  From drawing, to mixing colors, to application, we will work side by side to re-create a masterpiece!  For each class I will provide you with a high resolution image from which to paint OR you may bring in your own image of a masterpiece you'd like to study.  You are free to pick one of these paintings (or your own choice) and work on it for the entire quarter!  At the end of the course you will have a masterpiece ready to put on your wall--evidence of how much you've learned and experienced.

All students will benefit from watching
my instructional videos. These videos are usually fewer than 5 minutes long, categorized into topics relevant to study, and they are FREE for you to watch and learn.   Follow this link to watch Understanding Master Copies Part 1 and this link to watch Understanding Master Copies Part 2

I am committed to helping each of my student-artists achieve his or her goals. Each of my student-artists comes with unique aesthetic preferences, a different life situation, an individual level of mastery, and a specific number of hours to paint each week. Therefore, I will also be using each session to coach, critique, and instruct in the areas in which each student needs it most.  Students are encouraged to bring relevant out of class work to class for critique.  Enrolled Class Session students get the benefit of Individual Study and Critique ($80/hr.) at a group rate ($18/hr.)
