Today a classical atelier is considered to be a studio for very serious art training in the classical realist tradition. Join us for real painting instruction in solvent-free (that means non-toxic) oil painting on Wednesday, May 29th (for kids) from 4:30-7:30 p.m. and Friday, May 31st from 5-8 p.m. at the home of Lara Herrmann in the North End of Tacoma. We'll serve a healthy vegetarian entree at along with Moet Champagne and a non-alcoholic beverage so that we can socialize and get ready for some focused training in traditional oil painting. Note: this is not a "paint & pour" event. We just like to get acquainted before we get started. Half an hour after arrival we'll paint!
Melissa has mastered the art of traditional realist oil painting and has been training artists for over 30 years. In that time she has condensed that training into super patterns and mastery essentials that will turn your painting training from decades into days! We are calling this unique training session a Pop Up Atelier simply because she's taking her atelier outside of her studio. We supply everything so you can focus on learning, creating, and FUN!
We're taking you into the classical realm of painting white on white. Painting white objects is a time-tested method for learning how to gradate values and color temperatures over the surface of a form. You'll also get some practice painting the luminous and translucent quality of flowers. This buttercream frosted cake is decorated with real phalaenopsis orchids! When you are finished you will have created your own masterpiece that you can display proudly or give as a gift during this one lesson. No art experience is required--only a deep desire to learn.
Not only will you be getting expert training in oil painting from a master, you will also be practicing mindful awareness. You will be engaging in a practice that we feel is an antidote to the virtual, fast-paced, mass-produced world that we live in. You will spend a couple of hours tapping into your creative intelligence away from screens, attending to creating beauty with your very own hands. This is a human revolution.
