Exploring the Language of Composition
Gage Academy of Art
Mon-Fri., January 11-16, 10am to 4:30pm, with a 30 minute lunch break. Art is a visual language. Composition is the grammar of the language. You need competence in it in order to make coherent, expressive, and poetic visual statements. In this workshop you will learn the basics of compositional grammar and learn to use planar and spatial compositional techniques to create meaningful compositions. See how artists use various compositional techniques by analyzing works of art by contemporary and traditional masters. Practice your compositional skills by bringing an idea for a painting or drawing to class and applying your newfound techniques each day toward refining the way in which your image makes a visual statement. Participants will need a journal/sketchbook, drawing materials, and an expedient method for adding color such as color/watercolor pencils, watercolor, or pastel. Bring any reference images you will need to create your visual statement. WA1503w ALL LEVELS $635 |
